Peter Polan, MD, PhD, MPH (specialization: orthopaedy, sports medicine) is a Head of the Department of Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine at the UPJŠ and Šaca Hospital. Peter Polan is a member of various professional organizations: Slovak Orthopaedic and Traumatology Society (SOTS), Slovak society for Arthroscopy and Sports Traumatology (SSAST), Czech Orthopaedic-Traumatological Society (ČSOT), European Society for Sport Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA). He is a long-term collaborator of the Slovak Arthroscopic Register project (SAR). He took part in numerous internships in Austria, Czech Republic, Scotland, and USA. His main professional field of interest is endoprosthetics of knee and hip joints, arthroscopy of weight-bearing joints, sports orthopaedics and traumatology. In the field of sports medicine, he is focusing on the prevention of sports-related injuries. The year 2016 marks his participation at the creation of the FIFA medical centre of excellence in Košice-Šaca Hospital. He has been an organizer of 3 international conferences that were aimed at orthopaedy and sports medicine and various workshops aimed at new surgery techniques. He is the author of more than 50 lectures at Slovak and international conferences. He authored/co-authored 31 scientific works.
